Our team understands it is not ideal to have to go without your teeth for a time, which is why we offer denture care including denture repair and reline. Just like anything in life, your dentures can experience wear and tear over time, or start to not fit comfortably. Monitoring this while you have dentures, whether they are partial dentures or full dentures, is so important.
A denture reline is the process of adding a new material to the tissue side of the denture and ultimately aims to maintain a proper, comfortable fitting. A denture reline is generally required every 3-5 years, however patients with repetitive breakages or jawbone loss may require the care more frequently.
It happens to the best of our smiles…a broken denture! Damaged dentures are a common issue that can occur at any unexpected time. Typically, a broken denture can be repaired through replacing the damaged area with new material to re-bond the denture. If you need a full replacement, moulds will be required.
If you require a denture repair, ensure you bring in all the denture pieces with you. Do not attempt to fix the denture yourself. If adhesive is applied to the denture, the shape of the appliance may become distorted which can make it complicated for one of our dentists to professionally fix.
Speak with your prosthetist about how often you should have a denture check-up. When you’re not coming in for a check-up, be sure to maintain the following for optimal denture conditions:
