Crowns and Bridges

Lost more than one tooth? The team at Smile Speciality Dental Group have treatments available.

Dental crowns and bridges are a dental prosthetic solution for missing or damaged teeth, whether there is one or more teeth affected. This treatment aims to restore your smile to its natural state. A dental crown is used when the tooth structure is damaged or fractured.

Discover how our team of dental specialists can work with you to restore your smile through crowns and bridges today.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown, also referred to as a tooth cap, is used to cover or act as a cap to a damaged tooth. It aims to primarily improve appearance, shape and/or alignment. It is most typically placed over a dental implant to provide a tooth-like function, structure and aesthetic. You may be recommended to get a dental crown for many reasons. Some of the most common reasons patients require dental crown is to restore a fractured or cracked tooth, or prevent it from further weakening, attach a dental bridge, cover or “cap” a dental implant, fill the space in the grooves where there is not enough tooth remaining to do so, or cover a tooth that has recently had root canal treatment.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is generally recommended for patients missing one of more teeth as leaving gaps and spaces open between teeth can encourage the surrounding teeth to shift or rotate into the empty spaces. If a gap or more than one gap is not fixed, it can result in a bad bite, lead to gum disease, or temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Bridges are designed to cement the natural tooth or dental implants surrounding the empty gap. The connecting teeth, called abutments, serve as anchors for the bridges. A replacement tooth called, pontic, is then attached to the dental crown covering the abutment. Dental bridges here at Smile Speciality Dental Group are fully customised to match the colour of your natural teeth to restore the natural aesthetic that was lost.

In short, a dental bridge involves the creation of a crown for the tooth or implant on either side of the missing tooth, with a pontic placed between them. Should you require more information on what a dental crown or dental bridge is, call our team today on 07 3889 3324.
