What happens if you don’t get root canal?

What happens if you don’t get root canal?

Root canal therapy can save a damaged tooth from extraction and improve one’s overall oral health.

Many people put off getting root canal treatment because they are afraid of the procedure. However, root canal treatment is not as bad as you may think, and it is a much better option than having the damaged or infected tooth extracted. In this blog post, we will discuss the consequences of not getting root canal treatment, and we will also provide some information about what to expect during and after the procedure. If you are considering postponing your root canal treatment, please read on to learn more about the risks involved…

What is root canal therapy?

The tooth is made up of multiple layers — inside the tooth is a soft tissue known as pulp. Pulp comprises connective tissue, as well as blood vessels and nerves. When the pulp is damaged or infected, one may experience several uncomfortable symptoms. Some of the possible signs that your pulp is damaged include pain when chewing and/or biting; chips or cracks in the teeth; tooth sensitivity to hot or cold foods and drinks; swollen gums; and discolouration of the teeth and/or gums.

During root canal therapy, the damaged pulp is removed from inside the tooth. The root canals inside the affected tooth are cleaned and disinfected, and the area is sealed to prevent further damage. In some cases, a dental crown is placed to restore strength to the weakened tooth.

What happens if you don’t get root canal?

If your tooth pulp is infected, and you leave the issue untreated, it is possible for the infection to spread to other parts of the body. For this reason, it is important that the damaged pulp is removed as soon as possible.

Root canal therapy can also save a damaged tooth from extraction. During the procedure, the inside of the root canal is cleaned, filled, and sealed and a crown may be placed to strengthen the tooth and restore full oral function. After treatment, you should feel relief from any uncomfortable symptoms, such as pain and sensitivity.

By saving your natural tooth and restoring oral function, you will be able to chew with ease and comfort and enjoy optimal biting pressure. You will also notice a natural-looking appearance once your dental crown has been fitted.

Is the procedure painful?

The root canal procedure is performed under anaesthetic, which means that you won’t feel any pain during the treatment itself.

Once the effects of the anaesthetic have worn off, it is completely normal to experience some pain and sensitivity at the site of treatment. Your dentist will let you know which over-the-counter medications to take to alleviate any discomfort that you feel. Chat to your dentist about how to take care of your mouth during this time while it heals, and which foods are best during the recovery process.
